Become a Member Tribe
MTERA serves federally recognized Tribes located in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
To be eligible for membership, a Tribe must be federally recognized and situated in one of these three states.

Review
Review bylaws, membership benefits, and membership commitments.
Approve
Approve a Tribal Resolution accepting the MTERA membership commitments and appointing a Board Member. Use this template as a starting point.
Attend
Start attending MTERA Board Meetings the third Tuesday of every month to actively engage in the organization.
Member Tribe Commitments
MTERA is governed by Tribal Energy Champions (TECs) who are appointed by their respective Tribal Councils. These TECs are essential to our governance structure and play a critical role in effectively deploying MTERA resources. We maintain individual engagement with each Tribe to ensure their needs are met.
As a MTERA Member Tribe, you commit to:
Tribal Council resolution asserting the Tribe’s commitment to MTERA’s Mission
Appointed Tribal representative to serve as MTERA Board Member
Commitment to be an active and engaged Member Tribe:
– Attend monthly MTERA Board Meetings
– Attend annual meeting
– Support MTERA’s outreach efforts
– Share lessons learned
– Annual commitment of 20 hours

Each Member Tribe designates a representative to serve on MTERA’s Board of Directors. Member Tribes also gain access to the MTERA Information Hub.
