MTERA Releases Comprehensive Climate Action Plan for Midwest Tribal Communities

The Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association (MTERA) is excited to announce the completion of the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP). This plan promotes policies, practices, and technologies that aim to reduce pollution, create quality jobs, drive economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for Midwest Tribes.
The CCAP has taken a long time to develop and will serve as a platform for regional Tribal climate action. Having a holistic picture of energy emissions and usage will enable Tribes to determine the next steps for energy efficiency measures, clean energy deployment, and ultimately, set objectives towards energy sovereignty and independence.
The plan, funded by the EPA Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG), focuses on reducing harmful emissions, addressing environmental injustices, and fostering community-driven solutions within Midwest Tribal communities. MTERA collaborated with eight Midwest Tribes to ground the analysis in real data and insights that can be applicable to other Tribes across the region, regardless of their current climate action planning status.
Based on the findings from this CCAP, MTERA has developed a GHG Emissions Reduction Measures tool that Tribes can use to provide estimates of GHG reductions, cost estimates, and cost per emissions reduced associated with specific implementation activities of MTERA priority measures. This tool is intended to support the selection of CPRG projects.
What’s Next?
MTERA extends its thanks to everyone involved in creating this valuable resource: the MTERA CCAP Team, participating Midwest Tribes, and the EPA. Their partnership has produced a roadmap that will guide important work for years to come.
The completion of this plan isn’t an endpoint – it’s just the beginning. MTERA looks forward to the many initiatives and projects that will emerge from this foundation.
