MTERA’s mission is to empower Tribes to manage Tribal energy resources through collective action

In support of its mission, MTERA offers technical energy assistance to Member Tribes. MTERA understands that no two Tribes are alike and therefore a flexible approach is needed to provide customized energy planning support to individual Tribes. To this extent, MTERA offers an assortment of technical support services.

MTERA provides assistance to help your Tribe:

Track energy data
Develop energy baseline
Understand industry and energy project alternatives
Create a Strategic Energy Plan
Perform energy resources assessments
Identify project alternatives
Evaluate the feasibility of energy project alternatives
Identify project financing alternatives
Prepare Request(s) for Proposals for installers
Assess energy project proposals from vendors

Who can apply for assistance?

Any Member Tribe can apply for energy project assistance from MTERA.

How much does it cost?

MTERA anticipates providing technical assistance valued between $5,000 to $25,000 per request.

MTERA provides technical assistance for free to Member Tribes, but requests that Member Tribes who received assistance commit to in-kind contributions to MTERA of at least 5% of the project cost. As an example, MTERA would expect that a Tribe that receives $10,000 of free technical assistance provide in-kind time of at least $500.
